Birth: 1967 Bloom: 1973

Reggae music emerged in Jamaica in the early 60s, derived from ska, rocksteady, calypso (Trinidad and Tobago), zouk (The Antilles), soul, and jazz. In the middle of XX century Caribbean music style like ska and calypso became popular with British colonists in Jamaica, then spread out over the New World and became popular with Europeans.

At that time Jamaica was drawn into turbulent socio-political changes, that`s why the music reflected social problems. New music came from «unemployed streets». It was a slow-paced combination of ska and rock steady with hard bass lines. Discos were the place where youth used to communicate and fight. By the way, one of the first Bob Marley`s songs devoted to rude boys asking them to chill out.
